New Segment Alert! Update

I will be recording a new segment today for CoffeeNOfitler with Denisha around 1-2 p.m. EST. Will update this blog when I'm about to record.

Today got away from me, and I wasn't able to schedule a segment. I'm really hoping to get it out today, because I have some things I want to talk about!!

Care to join me for another segment? www.blogtalkradio.com/coffeenofilter :)

Additions to CoffeeNOfilter with Denisha

I was having a conversation with a friend yesterday about global issues as well as issues locally. Here at CoffeeNOfilter, I've tried to steer away from certain topics. On the other hand, I think the issues that are going on in the world today need to be talked about more. As you all know, I have a lot to say about my personal life. You may not know that I also like to talk about world issues, and I'm big on World Peace. I have decided that I will start incorporating more news in my radio show, as well as on this blog.

Don't worry, I'm not giving up my regular segments and becoming strictly "news reporting radio". The topics will be as usually, what I like to talk about, what's pissing me off, or what needs more exposure in my opinion. I would like for you to share your opinions with me as well. What's going on in your community that should be talked about more..both positive and negative. The news shows a lot of negativity in the world, and it will be like that there's world peace.

On my blog, I would like you to contribute to what I want to call "weekly news reports". There's people that read my blog(s) from all over the world, and I don't know what's going on all over the world. If we could work together more, and try to make a difference in the community/globally, we will be on the path to world peace.

Are you excited?

ONLINE DATING!!!! Are you doing it? My take on this whole thing..

I never thought I'd be one to say I have an online dating profile...

When it comes to dating and relationships, I'm neutral when it comes to being single. Seriously, I have no problem being by myself, taking myself out, dancing alone, etc. I've worked hard on maintaining "self-love" and I think everyone should do so. No one is going to love me better than me right?

Ok that was corny as hell, but true! I mean come on..do you want to be in a relationship where you love the person more than yourself. I sure don't, THAT'S UNHEALTHY!

Since I've been able to download apps again, I figured why not try them out and see what happens. I'm a little skeptical about the online dating thing, though I know people that are in relationships from them. I've been hit up for a 'DTF' (down to fuck) sessions with guys than actual relationships. The thought that you want to have sex with me isn't going to make me say "Oh yeah baby, bring that ass over her!" I much rather bite a bat's head off!

Also with this online dating, I will like someone and they like me back but won't get the courage to message me. I'm a direct person, so I don't mind, but damn what the hell! Ugh, it's more work to create a profile or my likes and dislikes, post a couple pictures and attempt to draw in some people.

Looks aren't everything, but DAAAAAAMMMMMNNNN! I'm not looking for Mr. Perfect, hell I'm not really looking..but if I can't look at you in the eyes during a conversation and tune out 0_0 what does that say. For instance, that Hot or Not app is hilarious and such a self-absorbed app that I'm apart of. I know it's shallow as fuck, but I was just curious to know who thinks I'm the Sugar Honey Ice Tea! Bhahahah, it was one of those apps that I was against, and then apart of. I'm terrible! :p

Another con about these dating sites are that, your perfect match isn't PERFECT! Taking that questionaire to see who you match up with is crap to me. I don't want someone that likes everything I like. I won't be able to explore different avenues with that person. There's plenty of experiences I have yet to experience and I want to try new things. Similar interest yes, but that 100% compatible is crap. If it were true, I'd be getting hit on all day bhahahah.

I may stay on it for a couple more days, who knows...I might meet someone..And if that happens I will definitely be updating this blog.

How do you feel about online dating?
Have you tried it out?
What were some of the pros and cons you found?
Have you met someone through an online dating site?

I'm curious to know...

UPDATES!!!

Hey Peeps,

I hope you've missed me as much as I've missed you! The semester is almost over, but there's still work that needs to be done. I'm currently working on my last paper for my Acting class, and I've enjoyed this class so much! It's definitely something I'm going to continue to do. I have met some cool individuals in this class this semester, and it's going to be bittersweet come final day. My business class is coming along as well, and I have a couple weeks left for that class as well. This is an 'Exploring the Future' course, and I have to say it's AMAZING! I love to talk about the future because that's something I think about majority of the time. My favorite thing about this course is definitely the discussion board. It's a great time to put your thoughts out there and see what others think. That's probably why my acting teacher encourages me to always speak because I always have something great to say...that's what she said (not tooting my horn)!

Life is pretty alright at the moment. You have to take the good with the bad, but I'm INCREDIBLY THANKFUL TO WAKE UP EACH DAY! THANK YOU GOD!!

In October I went to a concert with my friend Chelsea and saw this band called Walk the Moon and (opening band) Public! I love this band! If you are looking for something different to listen to, check them out.

I went to the Pitch Perfect Sing-A-Long this week and it was so much fun! Can't wait for the second movie to come out!

This weekend I'm going to Spoken Word! I love listening to poetry live, and I can't wait! I hope it's a place I will always go to. I love coffee and coffeehouses are cool!

I know I haven't blogged in a couple weeks, but I'm glad you are still supporting me. The more down time I have to put out a blog post, or radio show I will! I don't want to put out content I'm not 100% about, nor do I want you to read/listen to me talk about something I'm not passionate about. I have some EXCITING content coming very soon on my other blog CoffeeNOfilter with Denisha here on Blogger.com so definitely check and support me on that blog too. Don't forget to check out my radio show at blogtalkradio.com/coffeenofilter because I'll have some cool stuff coming on there soon.

Lastly, what would you like me to talk about on my blog(s)? I'm very curious to know what everyone else is thinking. What's going on in your neck of the woods that you want people to be aware of?

If you blog, leave a comment with your blog! I want to read it!

More to come...what do you want?

Seriously though, I would love to know what you want to see on this blog. Also what topics on my radio show would you like to hear about?

Leave a comment and let me know

Conversation about the FUTURE!

Current status: Eating my Halloween candy and sipping on this cold coffee...

Hey,

It is currently 12:32 a.m. and I've been having a lot of conversations with myself and others about the future. I'm taking a business course this semester about the future, and it's making me think a lot more about mine. Of course I have dreams/goals/plans for my life! We should all have these 3 things in our life; however, how should you go about doing these things is the question?

I say the number 1 thing to remember in life is that you have to...at some point be FEARLESS! Rejection is such an asshole sometimes, but it can be a kind asshole at times too! The good thing about rejection is that it can either break you or make you stronger. I've been that person that was fearful of a lot of things, but the older I get, the less fearful I'm becoming. Being rejected has helped build my confidence, and now I've stronger to go for things I probably would have avoided years ago.

Question: What does your future look like to you, and how do you plan on getting there?

The second thing to keep in mind is that there's nothing wrong with dreaming big, but you have to set goals for those dreams. Denzel Washington recently spoke for students about having dreams. He said, "dreams without goals are just dreams." For me, I dreamed of acting, having my own blog and radio show...now I have those things. I got over the "fear of rejection" and I set a goal for my dreams. My intent for my blogs/radio show isn't to have huge success, but just to have started something that I never thought in my wildest dreams I'd be doing.

For my career goal is to become a Physical Therapist! I'm currently in school working towards my goals right now. I'm taking the necessary steps at this moment to get there (volunteering/research/contacting different schools, etc). By taking the steps to achieve my goal for my career gives me clarity as to what I'm doing now. Everything I'm doing in school is building up for grad school and beyond! The more I educate myself in my field, the more I will know upon attending grad school.

I watched a video today about dreaming big, but focusing small: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3w7y0Rg_SY I think this video is a great tip in life.

Lastly, don't forget to have fun on your journey in life! As someone that enjoys laughter and fun in their life, I say everyone should do so as well. Make sure that the life you choose to live will be worth living! You don't want to look back at life saying shoulda, woulda, but didn't, right?

In the end, GOD has already written our journey out, though we think we are in control.

I'm no life expert, I'm just living each day the best I can. "Failing to plan is a plan to failure"..my dad always says that!

I hope you have enjoyed reading this post. I'd love to hear your input on this topic. Do you agree? Do you look at this topic differently?

Thanks for reading,

Nisha :)

www.hypersmash.com/hostgator/

DREAM BECAUSE THOSE DREAMS CAN BECOME REALITY!

Whoever said to not be a dreamer should be kicked in the shin. Literally! Dreaming is one of the best things you can do with your life, because it can become a reality. If you look outside yourself and see all that you buy, read, watch or eat has been a dream turned into reality. From the Apple dude to the local coffee shops in your neighborhood; they all had the same dream. To turn what they loved into reality and share it with the world.

So what makes you or me any different? NOTHING! I said I wanted to blog, have a radio show and do a dozen of other things in life. Guts is what separates us from those not turning dreams into realities. That's all, nothing more than taking a chance and having the guts to do it. We all have the same tools, but we use them differently. Rejection isn't something that should hold us back, which is what I was told to be deathly afraid of at a young age. "Don't put all your eggs in one basket", "Don't get too excited"...but why not?! Why shouldn't I put my heart into every dream I have to make it a reality. Rejection is apart of life, and it strengthens us in the end. After every tear that we wipe, after every tantrum we throw, or even the holes in the wall. On the contrary, there's some that let rejection stop us from continuing to move on after we are told no. Why? If anything, it should tell us to go back to the drawing board, and try to find a better solution to overcome that last rejection.

I'm no where near perfect, and I've been rejected and will still be rejected, it's life. However, letting it stop me from getting to where I want to be, I will NOT allow. The big names you hear in the media, or even just those local business owners have been rejected more times than they can count. Has that stopped them for going for the gold? No, if anything they continued to do what they wanted to do, to get to where they wanted to be. Success isn't a one size fits all, but like the jeans from 'The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants' scenario. It takes one idea from someone, but the courage within that person will be the success of that idea. Everyday we have to be willing to make our dreams come true. Don't let a "wacky" idea to others make your dream any less brilliant to you. People that see your vision will always back you up in the end, no matter how many times you've been rejected. Be your best support system because you are the one that dreamed this idea.

I may not be a huge blogger, have over millions of people read my blog, listen to my radio show, etc. However, I'm continuing to do what I love to do, which is use my voice to talk about things that matter to me. There's nothing more brilliant than taking a chance, nothing sexier than confidence to do what I couldn't do years ago. I wouldn't go back to tell myself to be anything but who they are now because who they will become later will be because of the life experiences they will face. Regret and reject are like brother and sister in my opinion. You should always want to push yourself to try new things, and shouldn't be afraid of getting hurt. Life is about taking chances and living through all the pain and joy that comes with the package. The creator* wouldn't have given life to you if he didn't think you would be a success! Stop and re-read that statement. Everyone on this planet was chosen for greatness, so how can you think you aren't going to be successful, or that your dreams can't come true?

Continue to take each day and remember that what you are dreaming can become your reality. Even if it's just to blog your ideas, or have a radio show. Your voice matters regardless if people say it's "not relevant", which I've been told by someone before. Have I stopped blogging? Hell no! I did; however, take the negativity out of my life. "Go Glenn Coco", has become my saying for anyone reaching their goals! Continue to encourage yourself and remember to encourage those around your that may seem like they are fearful of pursuing their dream. Even if they have the same dreams as you do, because the shoe could be on the other foot. If you're going to do some shade, make sure that you are shading the person like a tree from the hot blazing sun! Not shading them from the spotlight!

I'm obsessed with....FALL!

Fall weather has appeared this weekend, and I'm loving every moment of it. I'm so comfy laying around with my sister, niece and my dog. Every year Fall/Autumn comes I begin to freak out like crazy because this is the part of the year (besides my BIRTHDAY) that gets me pumped....

Here's WHY:
  1. Weather- I love can walk around all day without running out of breath. The heat during the Summer takes your breath away. Don't get me wrong, Summer is cool and you get to wear less clothing...depending on how you feel about yourself of course. But, it gets too hot that when you step outside, you begin to sweat. You just took a damn shower, and already you are sweating!
  2. Halloween- BY FAR MY FAVORITE HOLIDAY!
  3. Pumpkin EVERYTHING!- I saw a recipe for Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies and made them today ---------->Recipe:http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/pumpkin-chocolate-chip-cookies-recipe.html
Also made Pumpkin Spiced Coffee Creamer!!!! 0_0 OH MAH GAH!!! (Apple Pie Moonshine jar) Recipe: http://www.blogher.com/easy-pumpkin-spice-coffee-creamer-recipe
  4. Sweater Weather- There's something about a comfortable sweater that just reminds me of fall
  5. Fall fashion- I'm not a huge fashion person, but I love getting the essentials for Fall!
  6. New Shows/New Seasons-I feel like shows are better in the Fall than any other time of year! Sadly, it's also when new shows get cancelled. BOO TO THE NETWORKS FOR CUTTING THE SHOWS I DID LIKE!!!
Here's a link to a segment I did on my fave Fall shows!

**CLOSED! WINNER CONTACTED**Hair Product Review: Shea Moisture 'Raw Shea Butter & Argan Oil Repair and Transition Kit' and **GIVEAWAY** NOT SPONSORED!

Hey coffee addicts,

Hope you had a wonderful week, and I hope coffee was involved! Also, Pumpkin Spice Coffee/Latte is back...I've been on it like no tomorrow.

As you've read the title, I've be doing a hair product review. Since March, I've been on this "going back to natural" journey.

*WANT A CHANCE TO WIN THIS PRODUCT? KEEP READING FOR MORE INFORMATION!*

Reasons I decided to go back to natural:
1. I've found that relaxers weren't doing anything for my hair anymore, and I was like well what's the point in continuously placing this chemical on/inside me.
2. Also, it does more harm than good, but like a lot of things I was doing it (hypocrite).
3. The last two times I've gone to the hair salon to get it done, they just blow it out really good. It looked like I had a fresh relaxer after styling. (I did have a lot of relaxed, but my roots were laid is what I mean)
4. BREAKAGE!!!
(yes, I have a top on)BEFORE!

IN THE BEGINNING
I think either mid to the end of March was when I decided to just stop the relaxer all together. In the beginning, it was cool because I still had a lot of relaxed and a little bit of new growth. Usually around the warmer months June/July is when I would normally braid my hair; however, I didn't want the easy way out because I figured this isn't a temporary thing for me. My hair is VERY THICK/COARSE/HARD TO COMB/TANGLE CITY!!! But I was up for the challenge to see how far I'd get through the summer months wearing my hair out. Surprisingly, I didn't very well this summer and even did a roller set a few times. The problem started when more new growth started coming in.

My hair started to tangle like crazy, and my edges were suffering from the pulling and tugging I was doing. The hair products I was using before no longer worked for me. I was always going to Creme of Nature for my hair problems, but I think when the original formula changed, my hair was no longer a fan. Now that I have about 4-5 inches of new growth, I needed something that was going to treat my natural and relaxed hair EQUALLY! My constant Google searches on how other people treated the same issue wasn't working for me. REMEMBER: EVERY ONE'S HAIR IS DIFFERENT FROM YOURS, SO NOT EVERY PRODUCT WILL WORK THE SAME! I wasn't so concerned about having the "baby hairs" or being part of the "curly hair crew". I just wanted to make sure that my hair was MANAGEABLE!

I can say that Coconut Oil is one of the best for detangling my hair. I always have trouble getting the tangles in the front/top of my hair. That's where my edges are becoming weaker (stated above). I've never had weak edges, so this SCARES ME!

TRIAL AND ERROR
My friend Ashley suggested that I try Shea Moisture products. Ashley (who is my go to hair consultant), said that she likes them. I wasn't too thrilled on the price of the products, but at the same time you get what you pay for. I finally decided I was going to just try them because Walgreens was having a BOGO sale on Shea Moisture! Like I mentioned before, I wanted a product that was going to work good with my natural and relaxed hair, so I was happy they had the Transition Kit. Me being the trial and error person, I threw my hands up thinking what's the worse that can happen...I don't like it, return it and try something else.

WHAT YOU GET
The Walgreens price is $22.99 which isn't bad because you would get two regular sizes for about that price.

You get four 4 oz. of each product: Shampoo and Conditioner, Deep Treatment Masque and Elixir Finishing Spray

*I also like that it doesn't have all those nasty chemicals found in a lot of the hair products I use to use.*

OMG, WHERE DID I GET IT (MEAN GIRLS REFERENCE)
Walgreens
*You may be able to find it cheaper somewhere else though...if so LET A SISTA KNOW!! Thank you ;)*

WHAT YOU NEED
Wide tooth comb
Thermal cap/Plastic bag
Hair ties
Spray bottle filled with water (OPTIONAL)
Coconut Oil (helps to detangle)
Jamaican Black Castor Oil (OPTIONAL)
Additional conditioner (OPTIONAL)

HOW I USED THE PRODUCTS
Step 1: Section hair in four parts. Tie use either hair clips or hair ties to secure them.
Step 2: Detangle each section thoroughly.

Step 3: Shampoo each section. Make sure to massage your head rather than scratch. For years I was using my nails...NO NO NO! NO BUENO! Rinse. If you need to repeat, then do it.

Step 4: Apply the conditioner (root to tip) evenly. I used my wide tooth comb to help distribute it more.

Step 5: If you are going to wash your hair in the shower, you can go ahead and do your regular routine, while the products does it's job. If not, you can massage just sit and wait for the time allotted (I believe 5 minutes).

Step 6: Rinse each section one at a time thoroughly. Twist the sections of hair and place them back (picture above).

Step 7: Instead of using a towel to dry your hair, use an old t-shirt. This will help DECREASE the frizz. It also speeds up the drying time.

Step 8: Since my hair dries very quickly, I went ahead and strayed each section until my roots were a bit damp.

Step 9: Place some Coconut Oil and Jamaican Black Castor Oil on each section of hair for further detangling before the deep treatment masque. Comb each section. (this is optional, but I found that the product left my hair a bit dry)

New growth (where this curl come from?)

Step 10: Repeat Step 4! Make sure during this process you keep the four sections divided. This will make everything easier!!
Hair is getting longer...shrinkage though

Step 11: Place the thermal cap/plastic bag on your head. Leave for the allotted time, or for as long as you need it. *I left the product in my hair for 40 minutes. I also massaged the product in my hair to penetrate my scalp more.*

From this point, I made me a cup of coffee, and was on the computer!

Step 12: Rinse each section thoroughly and use the wide tooth comb during this process.
**NOTE: My hair still felt dry, so I used my Carol's Daughter conditioner to soften my hair**

Step 13: Repeat Step 7. Then comb your hair ENDS TO ROOT!
*At this point, you can style your hair as usual, or you can continue reading*

Step 14: The elixir says to only use it after styling your hair with a heating tool. However, I'm over using a blow dryer these days because it takes hours to go through my 2 textured hair! I was most pleased with this product because it left shine and softened my hair. Taking down one section at a time, I simply braided four individual braids per section. I also took this time to clip my ends because....dang!

(I placed a bonnet on my head and went to sleep)

NEXT DAY (TAKE DOWN AND RESULTS)
In the morning I sectioned my hair in for parts and began taking my braids down. To help with the frizz, use coconut oil or some other oil...just a little...or even the elixir.

I was pleased by how soft my hair had become after using the products. My hair doesn't feel weighted down by the stray. I can definitely run my hands through my roots with ease. That's a plus!

AFTER

PROS

  • Smells good
  • Softened my hair
  • Added shine
  • Moisturized
  • Controls frizz
  • Elixir is GREAT!
CONS

  • Not the best at detangling
  • Shampoo left my hair feeling dry
  • Had to use an additional conditioner to retain the moisture other than the elixir spray

RATINGS

8/10
Other than the cons listed below, this product was good. If I had to go from best product to the least in the kit would be the elixir spray, conditioner, deep treatment masque and shampoo.

The shampoo and masque were ok, but not great. The shampoo left my hair feeling dry and stripped, while the mask didn't seem like anything new to me. In other words, I didn't feel much of a different.

The elixir was FANTASTIC! It was like having coffee after you haven't had it in a week. The conditioner helped bring that moisture to my hair after I used the shampoo.

*I will do an updated review as I use the product more. I try not to shampoo it too often, but I will use the elixir and the conditioner (co-wash) more.*

Hope you found this product review helpful and informative. If you would like more, don't forget to leave a comment and tell me. Also let me know what other products you like.
