I had heard about Spotify awhile ago, but I never used it. I recently downloaded the app on my tablet, and let me just say that I am AMAZED!!There's a ton on this app other than music. AUDIOBOOKS, GUIDED MEDITATION, LEARN LANGUAGES, ETC! The hits just keep on coming ladies and gentlemen! You can type in your favorite artist(s) and get albums on here. It's just a terrific app to have with you!

MAKING YOUTUBE VIDEOS?!?! TRYING SOMETHING NEW?

So for the past couple months, I've been talking about how fun it would be to make YT videos! As you all know, I'm a YT junkie and I'm actually listening to one while I type this post. My friend Ashley keeps telling me to take the leap and make a YT video. I actually did make a video, and I posted it. It's not that great, but it's something lol! COLLEGE SERIES: GETTING REJECTED FROM YOUR DREAM SCHOOL!

I was so excited when the college fair came to town.

Stevenson University (Villa Julie) was at the top of my list!

I basically built my life around this school junior year.

The representative and I were buddies.

I visited the campus, saw the dorms, picked my major, bought a bear with the school's name on it. 

I was so excited about this school.

The representative made it sound like I was in like Flynn. 

Little did I know that my SAT scores just weren't good enough to get in.

Awaiting my acceptance letter, I paraded around like everything we great. 

You couldn't tell me NOTHING!!

They always say that an envelope means NO, and a packet means YES!.....

........

..................................

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

I got the envelope.

"Dear Denisha, Thank you for applying to Villa Julie. Unfortunately......"

TIME STOPPED!

I couldn't breath!

I began crying hysterically and couldn't form words into sentences.

I called the representative, and basically yelled at her!

"HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME?!! YOU SAID EVERYTHING WAS OK! YOU MADE ME FEEL IMPORTANT! I THOUGHT YOU LOVED ME!!"

I really felt like I was being broken up with, and I couldn't accept that!

I threw that bear in the trash! 

I was bitter for a couple months! 

I eventually got over it...

I look back on that experience and laugh now. It's important to not put all your eggs in one basket. Being rejected doesn't hurt much at all these days. I don't know where I would be if I had been accepted into Villa Julie (I hate the name change btw)..Anyway, I'm proud of the journey I've been on now. I've grown a lot and learned a lot. This is the path I'm suppose to be on. 

I hope you make the best of any situation you're in. You're going to go through so much rejection in life, but that's what life is about. Sometimes we fall, but we eventually have to get up.

CANADA TRIP!

For the past 10 years I've wanted to live in Canada! I think it was around the time that I started watching Degrassi: The Next Generation (age 11) is when I really began to pay attention to Canada. Over the years, I would watch a show, and be like "It's filmed in Canada", or see something and say "That's Canadian!". This obsession for a place I have yet to visit has just consumed 14 years of my life. There's a voice that keeps calling me and saying, "Denisha, you belong in Canada". I'm hoping to visit a couple places in Canada in the near future. I would like to live there for at least a year and see how I like it. 

I've gotten a lot of mixed responses from friends and family about wanting to move there. A lot of the responses have been, "It gets really cold there", "Why Canada?", "It's just like the U.S.", "Good luck during the winter", "It's hard to move there", etc.. I would still like to visit! I'm thinking about a solo trip to Toronto and/or Vancouver. From what I heard, they're nice places to visit. I am doing more research on other places that are tourist friendly.

CHIT CHAT: CATCHING UP WITH YOU AND THE TALE OF HAVING NO INTERNET!

I WENT FUCKING CRAZY WITHOUT THE INTERNET! I took a much needed break after my last segment to reflect on why I was doing radio in the first place. I started to look at the numbers rather than why I loved doing what I was doing. I think the modem which allows me to use the internet stopped working just in time. Though I was very bored in the house (could have cleaned my room...lazy ass), I thought about my show, and you guys. I remember when I first noticed people were listening to my show, I freaked out! I was thrilled, but I then after I talked about gay marriage and racism, people backed off. I think these are "taboo" topics that shouldn't be. I told you guys that I like to keep my radio show a bit on the light hearted side of things. However, recent events that took place made me very emotional and I needed to speak on it. I'm all for equal rights and treating people with respect regardless of your sex, gender, race, class, etc! I do have strong opinions about a lot of topics, which is why I like it when people join in on conversations, and discuss what's going on in the world. Not only that, but how we can come together and make a difference. It starts with one person, and then another and another, etc. 

On the contrary, I will leave that to my Coffee Talk Sunday segments. Since Summer is coming to an end, there will be transition segments for the next couple weeks. I start school at the end of the month, and I CAN'T WAIT! I'm so excited to start my first semester at Towson University, and continue on my education. My summer was a bit dry, but I'm glad to have a lot of down time because I'm always busy with school, work and life! 
Now that I have internet, I'm getting back to the swing of things. I will be recording on SUNDAY FOR 'COFFEE TALK SUNDAY'! I hope you join me, and continue to listen.

RACISM HAS A LONG HISTORY IN AMERICA! THOUGH WE'VE COME A LONG WAY, WE STILL HAVE A LONGER WAY TO GO! WHENEVER THE TOPIC OF RACISM COMES UP, PEOPLE TEND TO SHY AWAY OR TURN THE OTHER CHEEK. I'M CALLING ANYONE WHO DOES THIS OUT! THIS IS WHY WE TALK ABOUT THIS TOPIC AND FIND WAYS TO COME TOGETHER THAN DIVIDING. I NOTICED A GREAT DIVIDE DURING THE AFTERMATH OF FREEDIE GRAY'S DEATH. THE BLACK VERSUS WHITE DIVIDE ON MY FACEBOOK BECAME ALL TOO REAL. I NOTICED PEOPLE WHO I CALLED "FRIENDS" HAD A LOT OF NEGATIVE THINGS TO SAY ABOUT THE AFRICAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY. OTHERS DIDN'T COMMENT ON THE TOPIC AT ALL, WHICH MADE ME QUESTION "WHY AREN'T YOU UPSET?". REGARDLESS OF YOUR RACE, FREEDIE AND ALL THE OTHER VICTIMS ARE PEOPLE...IT IS THE HUMAN RACE THAT WE ARE ALL APART OF. 

IN RECENT NEWS, DYLANN ROOF MURDERED 9 AFRICAN AMERICANS AT EMANUEL AFRICAN METHODIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH IN CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA. HIS INTENTIONS WERE TO CAUSE A RACE WAR. THERE SEEMS TO BE AN ATTACK ON THE AFRICAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY,AND IT MAKES ME VERY ANGRY. 

I'M A PERSON THAT JUDGES YOU BASED ON YOUR CHARACTER, NOT THE COLOR OF YOUR SKIN. I WISH MORE PEOPLE THOUGHT THIS WAY. MY INTENTIONS IN TONIGHT'S SEGMENT IS TO HOPEFULLY OPEN THE CONVERSATION ON THIS TOPIC. INSTEAD OF GROWING APART ANYTIME THIS HAPPENS, WE SHOULD STICK TOGETHER. IT MAKES MATTERS WORSE WHEN WE DIVIDE, AND IT ONLY MAKES THESE RACIST GROUPS STRONGER.
