WE NEED TO TALK: DON'T TURN THE OTHER CHEEK!

CLICK HERE TO LISTEN TO MY OPINION ABOUT THE BALTIMORE RIOTS! WHAT'S YOUR OPINION ON IT? http://www.blogtalkradio.com/coffeenofilter/2015/04/27/baltimore-police-brutality-protests-riots-premonitions-world-peace

IT'S TERRIBLE WHAT'S GOING ON IN BALTIMORE. I DO LIVE IN BALTIMORE, MD! I KNEW IT WAS JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMETHING WERE TO HAPPEN HERE, AND IT'S DISAPPOINTING THAT THE CONVERSATION ABOUT RACISM IN THIS COUNTRY IS RARELY TALKED ABOUT UNTIL IT'S TOO LATE! I DECIDED TO VOICE MY OPINION ON MY RADIO SHOW BECAUSE IT BECAME BOTHERSOME. I HOPE TO OPEN A CONVERSATION ABOUT THE DEEP ISSUES WE HAVE IN THIS COUNTRY; WITHIN OUR COMMUNITIES AND EACH OTHER! IT'S WHEN SITUATIONS LIKE THIS OCCUR THAT WE NEED TO STAND TOGETHER INSTEAD OF TURNING THE OTHER CHEEK. WE HAVE TO STOP POINTING THE FINGER AND LOOK AT OURSELVES! WHAT ARE WE 'NOT' DOING AS A COUNTRY TO PREVENT THESE RIOTS FROM HAPPENING??? THERE'S PLENTY THAT NEEDS TO BE SAID, AND I FEAR THAT WHEN THE STORM CLEARS, QUESTIONS WILL STILL BE LEFT BEHIND AND UNANSWERED! PLEASE WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE!! DON'T BE IGNORANT TO THE WORLD YOU LIVE IN. LET'S COME TOGETHER AS A HUMAN RACE, AND TACKLE THESE ISSUES HEAD ON...INSTEAD OF LETTING THE "DORMANT VOLCANO ERUPT"!

Should I create a hair/makeup blog??

Hey peeps,

So lately I've been talking a lot about hair a lot since I've recently went back to being natural. I'm in my second week of being natural, and I'm still enjoying it. Today, I was on the computer (as usual), and I had a thought of creating another blog dedicated to hair and possibly makeup from time to time. What are your thoughts on this topic? Since no one ever leaves a comment, I will go by the views from this post. BTW, do you guys try to leave comments (ever)?

I'm in the thinking process of this right now, but I'm gonna get some much needed studying done for class..

WHOOP WHOOP!! FINAL COLLEGE SEGMENT!!!

I recorded my last college segment of the 3 part college series!! I'm excited about it, and I think you should be too. It's a great listen with lots of tips and advice for anyone entering college for the first time, or continuing their education.

Here's today's segment--->http://tobtr.com/s/7517527

Here's some websites I talked about during today's segment for renting textbooks. Listen to the advice I tell you before opting to rent though. Nothing bad, but just something you should keep in mind....

These two sites are my favorite for renting books!

Chegg's attention to their customers is great, and it's always nice to talk with them on Twitter if you have any questions about orders, books, tips, etc!
www.chegg.com

Amazon is another great site for renting textbooks! They also have a Student Prime Account, which you can get for 6 months free! You just need a student email account, and if you wish to continue after that trial it's $49. You also get 2 day free shipping, along with some other great benefits.

COLLEGE STUDENT STRUGGLES: THE STRUGGLE TO STAY FOCUSED IS REAL!!!

I HAVE NO DESIRE TO SIT AND STUDY FOR THIS EXAM ON MONDAY!!!

I just did a segment on college and the importance of being able to manage your time and how procrastinating is the enemy. I guess these past couple days that have been really bad caused me to be really lazy. Problem is that I can't be lazy right now, I need to get some work done. It's beautiful outside, but I'm in no mood to step a toe outside. I don't deserve to go enjoy the good weather, NOPE NOT AT ALL!! I got a major part of studying done though; INDEX CARDS!!! My main source to study is REPETITION!! I need a power nap though...maybe that'll help refocus my mind and get SHIT DONE!!

Don't forget to check out my college series:

WELL, I'M GONNA TAKE THIS POWER NAP AND GET MY SHIT TOGETHER SO I CAN ACE THIS EXAM AGAIN....WELL PASS IT'S CHEMISTRY...DON'T WANNA GET TOO AHEAD OF MYSELF HAHHAHAHAHAH!!! O_O

NATURAL HAIR JOURNEY! #NATURALHAIRACADEMY

Name or Alias

Denisha aka Nisha

What is your hair story?

In March 2014, I decided to stop getting relaxer when I noticed it was causing more harm than good for my hair. Also, my hair wasn't responding to it like it did in the past. I think it was my hair telling me that we didn't need the "creamy crack" anymore, lol! I decided to transition back to natural for a year and then big chop my hair. During this year of transitioning, I went through ups and downs with my hair; especially during the 4-8 months of transitioning. My hair was a tangled mess, but I didn't give up on my hair. This is when I was introduced to Shea Moisture and Oyin Handmade (specifically their Honey Hemp conditioner), which eased my transitioning journey. Instead of hiding my hair in braids, wings or sew-ins, I wanted to build a relationship with my hair. During the transitioning journey, I educated myself on natural hair, products, styles, and different textures in the natural hair community. I found that educating myself on natural hair early strengthened the relationship with my hair even more. When I reached a year transitioning this past March, I was so proud of myself, and decided to "mini" big chopped on April 6th (my 25th birthday). I admit I was a bit nervous, but cutting my hair was indeed LIBERATING!! I LOVE MY NATURAL HAIR!!!

How did your early life and family play into your journey?
I have a few family members, and friends who are natural. Growing up, my hair was thick, coarse and break a comb hair! I was always told I had "good hair" because it was so versatile, and I could hold different hair styles. When I decided to go back to natural, I remembered what my family members had said about my hair. It's a key element that kept me from reaching for a relaxer. There was a lot of support from my family to go back to natural. For one, it's my hair and I can do with it whatever I want, and it's just hair!

How did other respond to your decision?

Though most people I knew were happy for my decision to go back to natural, there were doubters. There's this negative image of natural hair the media/society likes to through shade at. I got comments like "Ew, you want nappy hair", "It's not professional", "It's going to look a hot mess" and the famous "You'll regret it" I simply ignored those comments, and kept positive people in my corner.

What or who inspires you to stay natural?

My family and friends that are natural keep me motivated to stay natural. Also, individuals within the natural hair community have continued to be positive, and share their experiences. I'm continuously looking at blogs, YouTube videos, and pictures of naturalists! I've always been into hair, and now that I'm natural it's a lot easier because I stay educated on this topic! I'm also my own inspiration with the pictures of my relaxed days. My hair today is so thick, kinky curly and healthier than it was years ago! I DON'T WANT TO GO BACK!

What was the most important/interesting thing you learned about yourself during your natural hair journey?

Building a strong relationship with my hair is the MOST IMPORTANT! I doubt that I would have the same outlook on my hair now, if I decided to cover it up for a year! Seeing the transition from relaxed to natural over a year was one of the coolest experiences I've been through. I also noticed how tightly curled my hair was, which is what I found interesting the more my hair grew. I didn't remember my natural curl pattern!
What is your hair regimen?
I try to keep my regimen as simplistic as possible. During my transition, I was told to not invest in many products head on..just keep my hair moisturized! Since I'm 100% natural now, I will dabble into some other products.
I currently use:
Coconut Oil (sealant)
Tresemme Naturals Conditioner (cowash)
Organic Apple Cider Vinegar (clarify monthly)
Sweet Almond, Jojoba, Avocado, Jamaican Black Castor Oil
**THESE PRODUCTS ARE CONSIDERED MY HOLY GRAIL**

What is your go-to/favorite style

I love to rock my afro whenever I can, and I like to do a twist to enhance my natural curl pattern. During my transition, I always wore a flat twist halo style. I found this style to work with everything (casual/dressy), and twist strand twist were cool too. I'm excited to see what styles I can rock during the Spring/Summer months.

What message would you like to convey to other naturals? A Motto or Creed?

Build a strong relationship with your hair, and love your hair at every stage! Also, don't get caught up in the "hair typing system". Instead, educate yourself on different textures during your transitioning. You'll learn to appreciate natural hair a lot more when you're looking at different naturalists. Lastly, support your sisters and brothers in the natural hair community!

I'M TEAM NATURAL NOW, MY BIRTHDAY, BIRTHDAY SEGMENT TOMORROW!! DETAILS BELOW!!

IF IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY MAKE SOME NOISE!!!! EHHHHHH, YES IT'S MY BIRTHDAY AND I'M SO EXCITED!

As you all know, I said I'd cut my hair on my birthday and be 100% natural! I kept that promise to myself and cut my hair last night. I'm so in love with my hair and love the kinky curls I have. I can't stop rubbing my hands in my hair, nor can I stop taking selfies. I will do a blog post later this week on the process of cutting my hair, along with pictures and products I used on my hair. But...here's the result of me cutting my hair

sidenote: My brother said it looks like I have a big gap lol

I will be doing a radio post tomorrow evening (around 11p EST). The older I get, the less I really want to do for my birthday...unless I'm traveling on a plane somewhere! Class was great and smooth today, went out to dinner and had a delicious meal. One of the great things about your birthday is that when you sign up on different sites, you get free little gifts..some with purchase. I was going to do a segment tonight, but I have to get up early, and I'm too tired to talk about my special day. I will be talking about it tomorrow since I don't have anywhere to be the following day (Wednesday).

I HOPE YOU ALL HAD A WONDERFUL WEEKEND, AND I WILL BE DOING AN EXTRA SEGMENT ON SATURDAY TO MAKE UP FOR TODAY LIKE USUAL!
